Kinotavr old logo19th Open Russian Film Festival Kinotavr 2008 will take place in Sochi on June 7 – 15 this year. The official website is kinotavr.ru (Eng), and you can read my article with photos about last year’s «Kinotavr 2007» here. If interested to go, shop around, at least for the air fair, as prices listed on their tour website are pretty crazy.

During the same time — June 5-10 — Sochi will host 75-th Russian international cinema-market (Kinorynok or Kinorinok). This biggest event of the Russian and xUSSR republics’ film industry takes place three times a year, twice in Moscow (March & December) and in Sochi. It attracts over 1000 representatives from film studios, distribution companies, film producers, creative groups, movie theatres, and companies producing wide range of equipment and services for the film industry.

The official website of the event, with programme, floor layouts, photos, etc., is kinorinok.ru (Rus)

Geographically, these two events will be happening very close to each other, right in Sochi’s center.

Here are a few photos from previous Kinorynok events:

    Hi Erik

I am planning to travel to Sochi from Trabzon in Turkey.

Do you know how I can find out the ferry schedule for August – specifically for the week beginning 18th August. I have phoned the ticket office of the ferry comapany. Unfortunately I cannot speak Russian so this was not successful.

On my web search I have found quite a few people looking for this information. I imagine you could get quite a bit of traffic if you posted this information.

As I’m here – do you have recommendations who low budget hotels/hostels?

    Kind regards

    David Lewis

    Hi David,
I haven’t had time to call, but I did write to both Sochi port and Trabzon port. Both replied saying that I should contact someone else, and gave me phone numbers. Here they are:

    Sochi (most probably Russian only):
    Information: (8622) 609-603
    Tickets office: (8622) 609-622

Trabson — I was told to contact travel agencies that operate these ferries:

    Kiyi Tur Turism
    Tel : +90 (0 462) 326 44 84
    Fax : +90 (0 462) 326 37 77

    Ozstar Shipping
    Tel : +90 (0 462) 326 66 78
    Fax : +90 (0 462) 326 67 74

    Asya Ro-Ro
    Tel : +90 (0 462) 326 09 32
    Fax : +90 (0 462) 321 14 16

As far as hotels — most low budget hotels in Sochi are private minihotels operated by owners, I’d probably be hard to find someone who speaks English.
